Internet has been used by almost everyone on the planet. They use it as a source of information, whether for education, leisure, business, or to socialise with people ‘online’. This has led to the development of unlawful or otherwise restricted content such as obscenity, criminal activities or government-related information. This is inevitable though, considering the fact that the matter can be traced back a long way even before the internet itself existed.
Follow up:
According to this source, Chinese government right now is promoting an individually monitored internet access throughout the country. Another way of doing it is to instruct some big sites like Google and YouTube to restrict or at least filter access to those contents that are inappropriate. This is in order to reduce the exposure of explicit video contents available to internet users while maintaining the reputation of the government, politically protecting precious government secrets from spreading all over the world.
I myself do not consider this as a good approach to solve the matter. To me it would be more appropriate to give and educate people by advertisements in the media or social networks instead of banning content and restricting access to only a handful of private-owned sites.
